Description
Nederlands: Eresabel van het model 1861 voor Joannes van Heutsz. In 1855 werd de eresabel ingevoerd voor officieren van het Indische leger die al gedecoreerd waren met de Militaire Willemsorde 4e klasse en die zich opnieuw bijzonder hadden onderscheiden. De eresabel werd op naam uitgereikt. Op de binnenzijde van de kling staat ‘kapitein van den generalen staf, J.B. van Heutsz, december 1889 – februari 1890. Kota Toeankoe, Kota Baroe en Tjot Goë’. Van Heutsz was officier in het Indische leger en van 1898 tot 1904 was hij gouverneur in Atjeh. In 1904 werd hij zelfs gouverneur-generaal. Van Heutsz is een controversieel figuur. Hij beëindigde de oorlog in Atjeh en onderwierp heel Nederlands-Indië. Daarbij werd hardvochtig optreden niet geschuwd.
