Have you ever heard of the LUVOIR telescope? It is the conceptual successor to Hubble (JWST is more of an infrared counterpart) with similar optical capabilities, but so much bigger, and with a huge field of view. This is the sort of telescope we could use to get a real good look at this supercluster. I shudder at the thought of all that data, and yet I hope one day to see it. The Shapley Supercluster would surely be an excellent target for such a thing, if it ever comes to fruition.

This time, there were enough data to make a pleasing color image. It came with a bit of trouble, because the telescope was rotated between the time it did the F814W and F475W exposures, so I did a little work to rotate the diffraction spikes from the F475W data to match the F814W. It's easier than it sounds, honestly.

A two-frame mosaic is possible, but the other frame would be monochrome.

Data from Proposal 10429 were used to create this image. Streaming Towards Shapley: The Mass of the Richest Galaxy Concentration in the Local Universe
